Dear Mrs Boutilier:
My capstone project idea is to set up an after school homework, and mentoring program, with middle school students, to help teach them about responsibility and help try to prepare them for high school. I am going to be volunteering at John F. Kennedy middle school in Southington. I will be going to the middle school once a week during school hours to help the students. I´m really interested in this because I know that kids in middle school, don't know what high school is really like, and I was one of those kids I struggled early in high school because of this.
My research question is, How does mentoring affect middle school students behavior, academically, and socially. This is a good question for my project because I want to help try and change kids and try to get them ready for the responsibilities of high school. I want to keep email Logs between me and my mentor and other people involved with my project, Pictures of me working with the students, and even student grades to help see any academic improvement.
I currently do not have a mentor at this time, but I do have a person in mind, Ms. Vitcavage the assistant principal, at John F. Kennedy middle school. I am currently working with her and my teachers to decide a start date for me. Ms. Vitcavage is very qualified to be my mentor because. She helps all the student try to succeed and get ready for high school. My learning stretch is, working with kids and public speaking, because that has always been a tough thing for me in the past.
Sincerely,
John Jones
